GPT-6.1 Sol
Current version: 6.1 updated
OpenAI's high-end model below Astra: agentic coding, documents, 1.05M context
What's new in GPT-6.1 Sol
- Upgrade to GPT-6 Sol with fewer factual errors
- More reliable at respecting explicit restrictions and user intent in agentic tasks
- Strong at agentic coding, computer use, documents and process automation
- Approaches GPT-6 Astra on these tasks at a much lower cost
- 1.05M-token context, up to 128K output, text, image and file input
What it's the best tool for
- 1.05M-token context, up to 128K output per reply
- Strong at agentic coding, computer use and document work
- Approaches Astra-level results on these tasks at a much lower cost
- Fewer factual errors and closer adherence to explicit restrictions in agentic tasks
- Accepts text, images and files as input
- Adjustable reasoning effort, tool calling and schema-constrained structured output
When to reach for something else
- Text output only: it reads images and files but does not generate them
- Reasoning mode adds latency and token spend
- The prompt is capped at about 922K tokens, the rest of the window is reserved for the answer
- Not the series flagship: for the very hardest tasks look at GPT-6 Astra
- OpenAI content filters apply to sensitive topics

More about GPT-6.1 Sol
GPT-6.1 Sol Online — OpenAI's High-End Model for Agents and Serious Work
GPT-6.1 Sol is an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol, released on September 29, 2026. On NetRoom it replaced GPT-6 Sol: the old link now leads to this page. In the GPT-6 series the model sits below the GPT-6 Astra flagship, yet on agentic coding, computer use, document-heavy professional work and multi-step business workflow automation it approaches Astra-level results at a much lower cost. It brings a 1.05 million token context, up to 128K output per reply, and accepts text, images and files as input. The model runs straight in the browser.
What's new vs GPT-6 Sol
The headline change is reliability. Version 6.1 makes fewer factual errors, and in agentic tasks it sticks more closely to explicit restrictions and to what the user actually meant. If the task says "do not touch these files" or "answer strictly in this format", it drifts off less often.
What it does
A 1.05M-token window fits a large repository, a document set or months of correspondence, and the model keeps the thread across the whole session. A single request takes up to 922K prompt tokens, leaving the rest of the window for the answer. Reasoning effort is adjustable: simple questions come back fast, hard ones get more thinking time. The verbosity parameter controls how detailed the answer is. Tool calling and schema-constrained structured output are supported, so GPT-6.1 Sol slots into agentic pipelines rather than chat alone. A seed is available when an answer has to be reproducible.
Sol, Astra and Luna
The GPT-6 generation ships in three tiers. Luna is the fast tier for everyday and high-volume work. Sol is the high-end tier tuned for the quality-to-cost balance: complex code, documents, process automation. Astra is the flagship, and it pays off where the task is genuinely hard and mistakes are expensive. A practical rule: start with Sol and move to Astra when Sol stalls. For hard tasks there is also a separate version, GPT-6.1 Sol Pro, which is the same model served in pro reasoning mode.
Who it fits
Developers get ticket-driven changes in a repository, refactors, migrations and multi-step work. People who drive a computer through agents get long scenarios across interfaces and tools. Anyone working with documents gets contracts, reports and tables. Teams automating processes get multi-step business workflows with tool calls. For short high-volume calls such as classification or labelling, the lower tiers are the saner choice.
Things to keep in mind
GPT-6.1 Sol answers in text only: it reads images and files but does not generate them. Reasoning adds latency and token spend, which is noticeable in interactive scenarios. It is not the series flagship: for the very hardest tasks, look at GPT-6 Astra. Standard OpenAI content filters apply to sensitive topics.
