Claude Haiku 5.5
Current version: 5.5 updated
Anthropic's small, fast model for high-volume work
What's new in Claude Haiku 5.5
- Successor to Claude Haiku 4.5
- Stronger at coding, computer use and knowledge work
- 1M token context, up to 128K output, text and image input
- The first Haiku with adjustable effort
- Adaptive thinking is on by default and can be turned off
What it's the best tool for
- Small, fast model built for high-volume work
- 1M token context, up to 128K output per reply
- Stronger than Haiku 4.5 at coding, computer use and knowledge work
- The first Haiku with adjustable effort
- Adaptive thinking is on by default and can be turned off
- A good fit for summarization, subagents and browser use
When to reach for something else
- On the hardest reasoning tasks, larger models are stronger: Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5
- No image or video generation
- Input is limited to text and images
- Same content filters as the bigger Claude models

Claude Haiku 5.5 Online — The Fast Claude for High-Volume Work
Claude Haiku 5.5 is Anthropic's small, fast model, released on October 7, 2026. It succeeds Claude Haiku 4.5: on NetRoom it took its place, and the old link now leads to this page. Haiku is built for high-volume work where speed and cost efficiency matter: summarization, subagents, browser use. Available online, straight in your browser.
What's new vs Haiku 4.5
Haiku 5.5 is noticeably stronger at coding, computer use and knowledge work. The context window grew to 1M tokens, and a single reply can run up to 128K tokens. It accepts text and images as input. For the first time Haiku has adjustable effort. Thinking is adaptive and on by default, and it can be turned off when you need maximum response speed.
Where Haiku 5.5 wins
Condensing long documents and search results, acting as a fast subagent inside a multi-step chain, working in a browser, classification and moderation, batch labelling, chatbot replies. Wherever volume and speed matter more than maximum reasoning depth, a compact model pays off better than a large one.
Effort and thinking
Haiku 5.5 is the first model in the series with adjustable effort. Low effort suits a stream of simple requests where responsiveness matters; high effort is for cases where the model should think longer. Adaptive thinking is on by default: the model decides how deeply to work through a request. If you need maximum speed, thinking can be turned off.
When to pick Haiku and when a bigger model
Choose Haiku for repetitive tasks with a clear expected result and a heavy stream of requests. If a task needs a long chain of reasoning, tangled architectural analysis or the most careful code, larger Anthropic models such as Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 do better. A practical approach: run the stream on Haiku and send the hard cases to a bigger model.
