GPT-Image-2.5 Flare: Fast AI Image Generation Online

GPT-Image-2.5 Flare is the fastest image model from OpenAI, released on 8 September 2026. It generates from a text description and edits existing pictures, and its quality is higher than the previous generation GPT Image 2 at half the latency. It is the pick when images are needed in quantity and right away: content, prototypes, option hunting.

Volume and throughput

A single request returns up to twenty images, so instead of agonising over the wording you can look at twenty takes and choose. Dimensions are free-form, from 16 to 3840 pixels per side in steps of 16: a story, a square feed post and a wide cover all come out in their native ratio with no cropping afterwards. There are six quality tiers — auto, low, medium, high, xhigh, max. The lower ones return faster and suit drafts and idea sweeps; the upper ones are worth saving for the final frame. Prompts hold up to 32000 characters, so a full brief can be pasted in as is.

Transparent background without manual cutouts

Background has three modes: auto, opaque and transparent. In transparent mode the object arrives already cut out, with no manual masking before it goes into a product card or a banner. One condition applies: the format. Transparency lives in PNG and WEBP, while JPG has no alpha channel and will fill the background with white or black. This is the practical route for product cards, icons, stickers and anything that will sit on someone else's layout.

Mask editing

Generation and editing live in one model. A request can carry a source image, up to sixteen references and a mask marking the region to change. This is real inpainting: the rest of the frame stays put. The mask works as a hint rather than a hard pixel boundary, so the new object settles into the scene by light and perspective instead of being pasted along the outline.

Flare or Sunburst

Flare is about tempo: test an idea, build a series, keep a content pipeline moving. When a frame goes into a campaign, product photography or a dense design layout and has to survive close inspection, the line also offers the higher-tier GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst. Neither model supports a negative prompt or a fixed seed.

How to start
